Clayton County, GA- Major Taylor, born Marshall Walter Taylor in 1878, was a pioneering African-American cyclist. He became the world champion in cycling in 1899, specializing in sprint races. Taylor faced racial discrimination throughout his career but broke barriers and left a lasting legacy as one of the early black athletes to achieve international success in the sport.
