What’s on the Agenda? Clayton County Commissioners to Consider Millions for Roads, Public Safety, Transit and More

The Clayton County Board of Commissioners will hold its next Regular Business Meeting on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.

The agenda includes millions of dollars in proposed funding for transportation and public safety projects, renovations to the Riverdale Library, a new fire department aerial apparatus, transit improvements, senior services initiatives and several appointments to county boards and authorities.

Here are some of the items Clayton County residents may want to watch.

$5.4 Million for Tara Boulevard Safety Improvements

Commissioners will consider accepting $5.4 million in grant funding from the Atlanta Regional Commission for the Tara Boulevard Safety Improvement Project.

According to the agenda, Resolution 2026-200 would authorize Clayton County to enter into an agreement with the Atlanta Regional Commission to receive the funding for the project.

Tara Boulevard Pedestrian Safety Project

Another Tara Boulevard item involves the county’s agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Resolution 2026-202 would establish a revised total design fee of $5.3 million for the Tara Boulevard Pedestrian Safety Improvements Project. According to the agenda, up to $1.06 million could be paid using 2021 SPLOST funds.

$8 Million for Clayton County Transit Facilities

Commissioners will also consider accepting $8 million from the Atlanta Regional Commission for multipurpose operations and maintenance facilities intended to improve Clayton County public transit services.

The funding is included under Resolution 2026-201.

$6 Million for Public Safety Water Rescue Training Center

One of the larger budget items on the consent agenda is a proposed $6 million allocation from 2021 SPLOST funds for the Public Safety Water Rescue Training Center.

The funding appears as Budget Amendment 4-5.

$1 Million for Riverdale Library Renovation

The Riverdale Library could receive a significant investment.

Budget Amendment 4-3 proposes allocating $1 million from 2015 SPLOST funds for the Riverdale Library Renovation.

The meeting will also include a proclamation recognizing September as Clayton County Library Card Sign-up Month.

$1.48 Million Fire Department Aerial

Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services could receive a new Pierce Custom Aerial apparatus.

The county is considering a cooperative purchase through Ten 8 Fire & Safety LLC for $1.48 million, with funding coming from the Fire and EMS Department’s General Fund.

Valley Hill Road Widening Project Cost Increase

Commissioners will consider amending the contract for the widening of Valley Hill Road.

The proposal would provide Baldwin Paving Company, Inc. an additional $749,261.34 for increased material, labor and equipment costs.

The contract would also be extended through July 31, 2027.

Funding would come from the 2015 SPLOST Fund.

$170,000 for District 2 Pocket Park

Budget Amendment 4-4 would allocate $170,000 in 2021 SPLOST funding for the District 2 Pocket Park.

New Telehealth Partnership for Non-Emergency Patients

Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services could enter into an agreement with RightSite Health Physicians PLLC to provide telehealth services for non-emergency patients.

According to the agenda, the telehealth program would be provided at no cost to Clayton County.

Senior Center Improvements and Modernization

Commissioners will consider allowing Clayton County Senior Services to apply for grants from the Thanks Mom and Dad Foundation.

The funding could be used for projects including:

Enhanced senior programming

Equipment and technology improvements

Community gardens

Seating and walking areas

New approaches to service delivery

Community partnerships

The agenda states that grants could provide at least $2,000 per Clayton County Senior Services facility, with as many as 37 individual grants available.

Holiday Hours for Libraries, Parks and Senior Centers

Resolution 2026-196 would establish holiday operating hours for Clayton County Library System, Parks and Recreation and Senior Services facilities during Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

Residents who use these facilities may want to watch for the final schedule approved by commissioners.

Fire Department Training Partnership with South Fulton

Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services could also enter into an agreement with the City of South Fulton Fire Rescue Department.

The agreement would allow City of South Fulton Training Academy students to receive clinical experience through Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services.

County Workforce Management Software

Commissioners will consider spending $420,280 for the migration and annual support of the county’s UKG Pro Workforce Management system.

The proposal includes software and equipment rental fees along with a fixed implementation fee.

A separate technology item would renew Kronos services for one year at a cost of $77,005.06.

New Travel and Expense Management System

The Finance Department is recommending a new travel and expense management software service through Carahsoft Technology Corporation.

The total proposed cost is $98,662, including initial setup and three years of service.

MARTA Citizens Advisory Board Member Removal

Resolution 2026-198 would authorize the Board of Commissioners to remove Lois Hunter from the Clayton County MARTA Citizens Advisory Board “for cause.”

A separate item on the regular agenda would allow Commissioner Tashé Allen to appoint a replacement to serve through April 5, 2027.

Previous Board and Authority Removals Could Be Reversed

Commissioners will also consider Resolution 2026-199.

The resolution would rescind the removal of certain individuals from Clayton County boards, authorities and committees after those individuals subsequently submitted required Affidavits of Residency.

Several County Board Appointments

The regular agenda includes a lengthy list of appointments to boards and authorities that can influence everything from libraries and zoning to tourism and transit.

Commissioner DeMont Davis is scheduled to appoint a new member to fill the remainder of a term on the Clayton County Library Board of Trustees after Mr. Shepherd Issac’s removal.

The full Board of Commissioners is also scheduled to select someone to fill the remainder of Valencia Williamson’s term on the MARTA Transit Authority Board following her removal on August 18, 2026.

Three appointments are also scheduled for the View Point Health Board.

Other Items on the Agenda

The meeting will begin with several presentations and proclamations, including recognition of the Veteran of the Month, Clayton County Library Card Sign-up Month and National Preparedness Month.

The Board will also consider an easement for Georgia Power at 1740 Flat Shoals Road and easements involving county-owned property at 3199 Anvilblock Road for construction and maintenance of a sewer line.

Public Comments

Residents are permitted to address the Board during public comment.

According to the published agenda, speakers are generally limited to three minutes and comments must relate to matters on the agenda or issues over which the Board of Commissioners has jurisdiction.

The Board provides 30 minutes for public comments before remaining individuals who have signed up may be heard at the next Tuesday business meeting.
