While visiting Lagos, Nigeria, Rotary Club of Atlanta Southern Crescent member and Rotarian Trina Kolawole had an unexpected reminder that the mission of Rotary extends far beyond borders.

Rotary is known around the world for its commitment to service, leadership, and community development. During her trip to Nigeria, Trina had the opportunity to witness that global reach firsthand while traveling through the city of Lagos.
Although she had hoped to attend a local Rotary meeting during her visit, her travel schedule required her to return to the United States on Sunday, the same day the local Rotary club gathers. Even so, the experience still delivered a memorable moment.
While riding in a car through Lagos, Trina happened to notice something familiar in the distance: a Rotary monument proudly displaying the Rotary International emblem. The statue stood as a visible reminder of Rotary’s presence and the organization’s dedication to service across continents.
Seeing the Rotary symbol thousands of miles away from her Clayton County, GA home reinforced a simple truth: the Rotary network connects communities across the globe.
For Trina, who serves as a member of the Rotary Club of Atlanta Southern Crescent, the moment highlighted how Rotary’s message continues to reach communities everywhere. Rotary clubs across Africa play a major role in service projects ranging from education initiatives to health programs, clean water projects, and economic development.
Rotary International operates in more than 200 countries and geographic areas, bringing together people who believe in service, leadership, and strengthening communities.
Experiences like this show how a simple emblem can represent something much larger. Even without attending a meeting, the presence of Rotary in Lagos made it clear that the organization’s work continues to connect people around the world who share the goal of improving their communities.
As a community advocate and co-founder of The Best of Clayton County, Trina enjoys sharing moments that highlight how leadership, service, and community involvement can bridge cultures and continents. From Clayton County, Georgia to Lagos, Nigeria, the Rotary spirit of service continues to bring people together.
