Riverdale, GA – October 8, 2025 — A remarkable partnership between local landowner Gary Beulah, Riverdale Renaissance, and the Clayton County Water Authority (CCWA) has transformed a one-acre property into a thriving nature preserve and bird sanctuary, while also solving a long-standing flooding issue that impacted nearby homes.

Community collaboration at its best. Riverdale Renaissance, Gary Beulah, and CCWA restore natural water flow and create a peaceful wildlife sanctuary in Riverdale, GA.

The land, home to several key tributary creeks that feed into the Flint River, had suffered from blockages that caused localized flooding and posed risks to nearby sewer infrastructure. Thanks to this collaboration, those challenges have been resolved with long-term environmental and community benefits.

“My vision for this land is a true sanctuary, a natural space where local wildlife can thrive,” said Mr. Beulah. “But when I realized the blocked creeks were causing flooding for my neighbors, I knew I had to act immediately to find a solution that protected both the environment and the community.”

After Mr. Beulah reached out to CCWA, Desmond Norwood, Water Conveyance Manager, quickly responded by visiting the property with his team. Together, they identified the problem areas and proposed a sustainable fix. Within just one week, CCWA crews cleared the blockages and installed new piping, restoring the creeks’ natural flow.

This proactive effort not only resolved flooding concerns but also prevented storm water from entering nearby sewer manholes, a critical step in safeguarding Riverdale’s infrastructure.

“This is a perfect example of what can be accomplished when private citizens and public agencies work together with a shared goal of environmental responsibility and community safety,” added Mr. Beulah. “The CCWA’s quick response and professional solution have secured the future of the preserve while protecting our neighbors and local infrastructure.”

Desmond Norwood echoed that sentiment:

“Maintaining the natural flow of our local waterways is essential for managing storm water and protecting our infrastructure. This was a win-win for the environment and the community.”

The restored tributaries are now flowing freely, supporting the health of the Flint River watershed and enhancing biodiversity across the property.
