Future Physicians Pipeline Program Offers Monthly Virtual Physician Roundtable for Students
Students interested in medicine now have a new opportunity to learn directly from practicing physicians through the Future Physicians Pipeline Program’s Monthly Virtual Physician Roundtable.
The online series is held every third Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. During each session, a physician introduces students to a different medical specialty and discusses what the profession is really like, including career preparation, work schedules, procedures, conditions treated and the path required to enter that specialty. Students also have an opportunity to ask questions.
The Future Physicians Pipeline Program was created to provide African-American and other underrepresented students with earlier access to medical education, mentorship, clinical exposure and academic support. Its programming serves students from elementary through high school, with structured opportunities beginning in fourth grade and continuing through 12th grade.
A Chance to Hear Directly From Local Physicians
The first Virtual Physician Roundtable featured Dr. Clarisa Haugabrook, an obstetrician and gynecologist with Eagle’s Landing OB/GYN Associates in McDonough.
Dr. Haugabrook earned her medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine and completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency through the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga.
Future sessions will highlight different areas of medicine, giving students the opportunity to explore specialties they may not have previously considered.
