Binos & Boats Kayak Tour Offers a Birding Adventure on Blalock Reservoir
Clayton County residents and visitors have a chance to experience Blalock Reservoir from a different point of view during the Binos & Boats Kayak Tour hosted by the Melvin L. Newman Wetlands Center.
The guided outing will take place Tuesday, October 13, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Participants will kayak across Blalock Reservoir while looking for wildlife including wading birds, waterfowl and Bald Eagles.
No kayaking or birding experience is required. The Newman Wetlands Center says its guided paddling programs are free and designed to introduce residents and visitors to Clayton County’s water resources, wildlife and natural environment.

The program provides participants with the equipment needed to get on the water, including a sit-on-top kayak, paddle, life jacket, emergency whistle and small dry bag. The event announcement also notes that binoculars will be available for the birding portion of the trip.
Participants should plan to wear quick-dry clothing, closed-toed shoes, weather-appropriate layers and sun protection. Newman Wetlands Center also recommends bringing items such as a hat, towel, snacks and a change of clothes.
