Roberta T. Smith Elementary School Joins National PTA School of Excellence Program
Clayton County elementary school takes an important step toward strengthening family engagement, community partnerships, and student success.
CLAYTON COUNTY, GA — Roberta T. Smith Elementary School is taking an exciting step toward strengthening its school community as its Parent Teacher Association (PTA) participates in the 2026–2027 National PTA School of Excellence Program.
The national initiative recognizes schools and PTAs that demonstrate a commitment to building strong relationships between families, educators, and communities while creating welcoming, inclusive environments where students can thrive.
Through its participation, Roberta T. Smith Elementary School’s PTA will work alongside families, teachers, and community supporters to identify opportunities for improvement, encourage greater involvement, and create meaningful experiences that support student achievement.
What Is the National PTA School of Excellence Program?
The National PTA School of Excellence Program is a yearlong initiative designed to help schools strengthen family-school partnerships and make lasting improvements in their communities.
Participating PTAs gather feedback, identify priorities, and develop action plans based on the needs of their school communities.
Schools and PTAs that successfully complete the program’s requirements can earn the prestigious National PTA School of Excellence designation, a recognition that lasts for two academic years.
For Roberta T. Smith Elementary School, participation represents an opportunity to build on existing relationships while exploring new ways to support students and families.
Community Voices Will Help Shape the School’s Future
As part of the initiative, the Roberta T. Smith Elementary School PTA is encouraging parents, teachers, PTA members, and community supporters to participate in its School of Excellence Community Survey.
The survey provides an opportunity for individuals to share their experiences, perspectives, and recommendations about the school community.
According to the PTA, feedback will help guide efforts to:
Develop meaningful programs and family engagement opportunities.
Strengthen partnerships among families, educators, and community members.
Identify areas where additional resources or support may be needed.
Create a more welcoming, inclusive, and connected school environment.
Make a lasting, positive impact on students and their families.
By inviting input from a broad range of voices, the PTA hopes to better understand what matters most to the people it serves.
Why Family Engagement Matters
Strong family-school partnerships play an important role in helping children succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
When parents and caregivers have opportunities to participate in school activities, communicate with educators, and contribute to decisions affecting their children, schools can become more responsive to the needs of their communities.
The National PTA School of Excellence Program encourages this type of collaboration by helping schools turn community feedback into meaningful action.
For Clayton County families, the initiative highlights the importance of working together to ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed.
How Families and Community Members Can Get Involved
The Roberta T. Smith Elementary School PTA is encouraging its school community to make its voice heard through the School of Excellence Community Survey.
Parents, teachers, and community supporters are encouraged to follow the school’s PTA communications for information about completing the survey and participating in upcoming engagement opportunities.
Community participation will be an important part of helping the PTA identify priorities and measure progress throughout the 2026–2027 school year.
While participation does not guarantee the national designation, the school’s involvement marks a meaningful commitment to strengthening the relationships that support student success.
