Clayton County has several community events coming up for residents of all ages. From homebuyer education and free technology classes to family storytime, live music and an end-of-summer cookout, there are plenty of opportunities to learn, connect and have fun close to home.

Saturday, August 22
HUD-Approved Homebuyer Education Workshop
Residents interested in learning more about the homebuying process can attend an eight-hour HUD-approved workshop presented by the Clayton County Office of Grants Administration in collaboration with Metro Fair Housing Services, Inc.

Stock the Giving Shelf Donation Drive
The community is invited to help stock the Giving Shelf for students at Riverdale Middle School. Every donation can help ensure local students have access to needed supplies throughout the school year.

Free NACA Homebuyer Workshop
Clayton County District 3 Commissioner Tashé Allen and NACA are hosting a free workshop for prospective homebuyers. Attendees can receive practical information, guidance and tools designed to help them better understand the path to homeownership.

Community Youth Event and Back-to-School Drive

Free Introduction to Canva Training
Clayton County’s Office of Digital Equity will offer a hands-on introduction to Canva. Participants can learn how to use templates, fonts, colors and design elements to create social media graphics, presentations, flyers and business materials. Computers will be available, although attendees may bring their own laptops.

Free Introduction to AI and ChatGPT Training
This beginner-friendly class will cover conversational artificial intelligence, practical uses for ChatGPT, effective prompting and common troubleshooting tips. Participants may bring a laptop, but computers will also be available.

Moving Clayton Forward Public Information Open House
Clayton County residents can learn about the proposed Southlake Bus Rapid Transit route and other initiatives related to transportation, housing, transit-oriented development, economic development and community growth. Project representatives will be available to answer questions and share updates.

Friday, August 28
After Work Cool Down
The City of Riverdale is hosting an evening concert featuring live music along with food and merchandise vendors. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. General admission is free, while reserved tables and seating are available for purchase.

Flint on the Lawn: A Gospel Concert Under the Stars
Commissioner Tashé Allen and Clayton County Senior Services invite the community to an outdoor gospel concert featuring local choirs and special guest Avery Dixon, the saxophonist featured on America’s Got Talent. The evening will also include a live DJ, food vendors and giveaways. Guests should bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Saturday, August 29
District 1 End-of-Summer Cookout
Clayton County District 1 Commissioner Alaina Reaves and Clayton County Parks and Recreation are closing out the summer with an afternoon of family fun. The cookout will feature vendors, food trucks, games, bounce houses, music, giveaways and raffles.
